I am currently working on becoming a certified genealogist, and let me just tell you….this is not for the faint of heart.
I have been doing genealogy and research for many years thanks to my Nana and Mama. Like any good Southern family, we lay out exactly who our people are, and we like to know all of our cousins too. Now I am pretty competent when it comes to research. In fact, I think I am pretty dang good. But when you have that one family member from the late 1700’s who is giving you trouble you really want to smack em. I mean it has gotten to the point where I want to go see a medium and a voodoo priestess. At this point I would take their ghost coming back to haunt me, just to learn some dang information!!
In your own genealogy journey you may have already reached this point, or you haven’t gotten there yet. Lucky you.
My best advice for this situation is no, not a haunting, but a simple notebook. One of my biggest problems is searching the same information again and again. Write down each book, website and census record you come across. By doing this it will help cut down on the moments of utter confusion, because if you are like me, you will NOT remember everything you have looked at. I have started a notebook on each surname and if it is something important that I can print or copy then I do it! Add it to the notebook or take lots of notes. This is just one easy step in organizing and pushing forward on those hard to locate records, ghost not included.
